Services provided by the Eaton Township Road Department include road surface and roadway maintenance of 25.30 miles of Township owned streets and street lighting. State and County roads are maintained by those respective governmental agencies.

The State Roads in Eaton Township are:
State Route 83 (Avon Belden Road)
State Route 82 (Royalton Road)
State Route 57

State Roads in Eaton Township are maintained by the Ohio Department of Transportation Garage in Oberlin: ODOT, 405 West Lorain Street (State Route 511), (440) 774-6681.

The County Roads in Eaton Township are:
Chestnut Ridge

County Roads in Eaton Township are maintained by the Lorain County Engineer and Lorain County Garage. The Lorain County Engineer's Office is located at 247 Hadaway Street in Elyria, (440) 329-5586.

The Lorain County Garage is located on Russia Road off Killdeer Circle, (440) 326-5880

All other roads are Township Roads:
The Township Roads are maintained by the Eaton Township Road Department. The Road Department is located at 12043 Avon Belden Road, (440) 748-2236.

The Road Crew consists of three full-time employees and one part-time employee. This crew is responsible for many different types of Township maintenance including road repair, roadside mowing, leaf vacuuming, snow plowing, park and cemetery mowing and maintenance. These employees also do a variety of minor repairs and contribute greatly to the upkeep of the Town Hall and Township equipment. The most recent road equipment purchased was a 2009 1-Ton Pickup for use in year round road maintenance and snow plowing.

Snow Emergency Classifications

Pursuant of Ohio Attorney General Opinion 86-023, the sheriff of a county may declare a snow emergency and temporarily close county and township roads within his jurisdiction for the preservation of the public peace. Attorney General Opinion 97-015 allows the sheriff to close state and municipal roads.

Snow Emergency Classifications

LEVEL 1: Roadways are hazardous with blowing and drifting snow. Roads may also be icy. Motorists are urged to drive very cautiously.
LEVEL 2: Roadways are hazardous with blowing and drifting snow. Roads may also be very icy. Only those who feel it is necessary to drive should be out on the roads. Contact your employer to see if you should report to work. Motorists should use extreme caution.
LEVEL 3: All roadways are closed to non-emergency personnel. No one should be driving during these conditions unless it is absolutely necessary to travel or a personal emergency exists. All employees should contact their employer to see if they should report to work. Those traveling on the roads may subject themselves to arrest.
